So I've done these before on other places, and they're always a lot of fun. Basically, one person writes a sentence or a paragraph or a couple paragraphs, and then the next person picks up where they let off, and so on and so forth. I'll start The girl opened the closet door a crack, and, seeing no one, stepped stealthily out into the room.

She had taken just two steps when a large, icy hand clamped over her mouth and she was pressed tightly against a muscular shoulder. No scream would escape her mouth...a wedge had caught in it.
"Hush!" a voice hissed in her ear.
She slumped against her brother, heart pounding.
"Don't make a sound."

Hilla nodded, and her brother uncovered her mouth. Silently he gestured for her to follow him. He pressed on one of the tiles in the wall, and Hilla gaped as the entrance to a secret passageway opened. Her brother pulled her inside and the entrance slid shut behind them.

"So this is where it is," Hilla exclaimed in a soft voice. "I knew there was some place you slipped in and out of this place. Mind telling me what exactly is going on?"

"Later," Caleb said, leading her along the passage. "For now we have to-" He stopped so suddenly that she bumped into him.

"What?" Hilla breathed. "What's wrong?" "Hush!" Caleb hissed. He stealthily slid his hand to his belt and drew a long knife. "Where did you-?" Caleb cut her off again. "Someone's in the tunnel. Stay behind me." Hilla could see the glow of torch light around the corner coming closer. Closer. It turned the corner.

"Dyran! I should have known," Caleb growled. "Hello Caleb; it's nice to see you too," Dyran replied. He chuckled- it was not a pleasant sound- and glanced at the knife in Caleb's hand. "Carrying weapons now, are we? My, you have advanced!" said Dyran with mock admiration. "I'm sure the government would be very interested in your progress. Or the Masked Man, for that matter; I do have connections you know." "Tell me what you want so the real fight can begin; you and I both know I'm going to refuse," Caleb retorted. "So impatient Caleb; and so ready to fight with a girl present? Tsk tsk." Dyran shook his head, and Hilla shivered as he silently regarded her, almost curiously, breathing a sigh of relief when he finally turned back to Caleb. "What I want Caleb is simply this-"

He paused. Caleb watched Dyran calmly, his posture relaxed, although he still gripped the knife. "Well? Spit it out." Dyran scowled. "I want the secret. The one that should have been told to me." "Oh, that." Caleb smirked. "I'm afraid I can't give you that. The thing about secrets is that they aren't meant to be shared." Dyran's face twisted in fury. "It was never meant for you!" "Regardless," Caleb drawled. "What's done is done. Now, if you'll excuse us..."

Dyran almost smiled. "And where would you be off to in such a hurry?" The words were spoken with such poorly hidden amusement, Hilla began to feel uneasy. She glanced behind them, wondering if someone else was in the passage. What if they couldn't escape... "It's a secret," Caleb retorted. Dyran frowned. "You should know better than to try and play games with me, Caleb; we both know you aren't capable of winning. Not unless, that is, you tell me what I want to know." "I still wouldn't 'win' as you put it; in fact, I would consider myself dishonorably disqualified from the 'game', if that is what you would like to call this mess. You know I'd rather die than tell you; your wasting your time- and ours." Dyran laughed. "Oh, Caleb- you always were naive. Do you think I've continued this silly little conversation for so long without a reason, when I could run you both through in an instant? No, my dear boy, you have wasted your time, and your time alone. I consider it very well spent." With a smile so cold Hilla felt a chill sweep through her body, Dyran raised his hand into the air.

At first nothing happened. Caleb barked a laugh and started to speak. "This is-" Then a cold wind blew through the tunnel. With it came a dark, mist-like shadow. Dyran leaned forward. "You see, Caleb, since you wouldn't tell me the secret, I found someone else who would tell me theirs." He smiled again as the shadow swirled around him. "Enjoy the party." And then he disappeared. The shadow swirled around Caleb and Hilla and they heard howls fast approaching. Hilla stepped closer to her brother. Her voice shook. "C-Caleb? What's going on?"

At first, Caleb didn't reply, and Hilla looked at him, her heart pounding. There was something in Caleb's eyes she had never seen before: genuine fear. "Caleb?" He looked at her for a moment before replying. "It's an old illusion; the mist messes with our brains, causing us to hear things that aren't really there." "Like the howling?" asked Hilla tremulously. Caleb nodded gravely. "But- if it's only an illusion- doesn't that mean-" "It's a dangerous illusion, not only because it messes with our brains, but also because the mist is very real, and is made up of gasses intended to render the victims unconscious- although sometimes-" Caleb stopped abruptly and turned away. "Sometimes what?" "Nothing. We only have a few minutes to try and make it back to the entrance before we lose our senses." Caleb turned around and began walking back toward the secret panel. "Do you think we'll make it?" Hilla asked with a gasp. Already she could feel herself weakening. "We have to," Caleb replied without looking at her.

The words didn't make her feel any better. Another howl echoed, and she thought she saw a dark shape creeping towards them in the mist. "C-Caleb?" She stammered, spinning around. Her eyes widened. Caleb had vanished.

Hilla tried to calm her breathing. Her heart pounded, and the world around her started to blur. "No!" she whispered, trying to shake off the weakness engulfing her. Caleb must have just gotten ahead of her... yes, that was it. He would be waiting at the entrance, she was sure of it- at least, she hoped he was. Encouraged by this thought, Hilla continued groping forward. But every step left her feeling weaker than before, and the mist seemed to be reaching up in long tentacles to try and drag her down. Hilla was beginning to lose her senses. She knew not where she was going, or why. She just knew she had to keep moving forward, she had to get somewhere, to someone... but who? She rounded a corner in the passage and met a sight she wouldn't easily forget. A large, black wolf blocked the passage, his eyes glowing yellow in the otherwise pitch blackness. It only had time to snarl at her once before her sight darkened, and she slipped away from the waking world.

Pain flowered in her face and brought her back to reality. Hilla's hand went to her cheek and came away covered in blood. She strained to sit up, but she couldn't move her torso. She raised her head and saw she was laying on cold stone, stretched out with her legs strapped to the floor. "What?" she breathed. "What happened? It was an illusion. Caleb said...he said...it was a dream." "Oh no my dear." A dangerously soft and smooth voice came from the shadows surrounding her. "It was no dream. And neither is this." A form stepped from the darkness and knelt beside her. Hilla looked at it and gasped. It was a man, but his face... his face was twisted and scarred, ugly and cruel. "Are you staring at me, girl?" the man asked, his voice measured and cool. Hilla couldn't speak. "Perhaps you are. Or perhaps you find the wall behind my shoulder very interesting. Either way, you shouldn't. Now, where is your brother?" The man talked so smoothly and quickly that Hilla could hardly comprehend what he said. "The...the wall? No I...I don't like the wall. Caleb? I don't know where Caleb is. He said it was a dream." The man sighed. "I told you, it wasn't a dream. You don't listen do you? Well, maybe you'll listen to this." He raised his fist and drew it down Hilla's other cheek. Blood spilled down her face and she screamed. He turned his hand, showing her four sharp points attached to black gloves pulled over his arm. "Now, now it wasn't that bad was it? Only a few scratches. I've had worse. Come now, won't you tell me where your brother is?"

"I- I don't know," Hilla replied, barely above a whisper. The words caught in her throat as she tried to hold back sobs. The pain was so intense... "Look, girl, I was sent to find your brother, and if I bring back a whimpering, skinny rat of a girl instead it isn't going to go over very well with my supervisor, so how about you help us both out and just tell me where he is?" "I lost him in the passage, and I don't know where he is," Hilla insisted, the tears finally spilling down her cheeks. The salt burned her fresh cuts and an involuntary moan escaped her lips. "Well he isn't in the passage now!" The man was nearly shouting, clenching his fists in exasperation as he started to realize maybe Hilla was telling the truth. He raised his hand, and for a moment Hilla feared he might strike her again, and shrunk back in fear. But instead, he unstrapped her legs from the floor and jerked her to her feet with a laugh. "So you're scared of me, eh girl? Good. I suppose maybe you're not such a bad catch after all... the sister of the Silent Hawk. You just might be worth something to the Masked Man. But we'll find that out soon enough." Hilla was struggling so hard to stay on her feet she barely heard what he said. But when he called her the sister of the Silent Hawk, she nearly fell to the floor again- and probably would have if his grip hadn't been so tight.
